Kratom in your body: What happens when you take Kratom?

Introduction:

Kratom comes in various forms and types such as a red vein, white vein, and green vein Kratom. They have also sedative and moderate strains. Each type has a specific texture, physical and chemical properties. So they affect differently in the human body.

The working mechanism of Kratom in the human body is dependent on the Kratom dose and type. For instance, the red vein Kratom has stronger effects as compared to the other two. In today’s blog post we will discuss, how Kratom works in the human body and what are its good and bad effects associated with its dose and type.

What happens when you take Kratom?

Kratom is consumed in different forms. Traditionally Kratom leaves were brewed in tea or chewed for relaxation effects. Kratom powder is consumed directly or added to coffee for stronger effects. All these various forms have the same chemical composition. Now a day most people prefer to take it in capsule form.

When Kratom is consumed, it shows its effect on the brain and stomach.

Kratom effects on the brain:

The chemical substance present in Kratom reaches the brain and shows its effects on the nervous system. There are 27 active alkaloids present in Kratom. Mitragynine and 7-α-hydroxy mitragynine are the main components that are responsible for Kratom’s effects.

Both Mitragynine and 7-α-hydroxy Mitragynine interact with opioid receptors in the brain, thereby reducing pain and providing feelings of euphoria. When people consume a lot of Kratom, it reduces pain and increases sedation and pleasure.

When the active compounds in Kratom reach the brain cells, they relieve anxiety and make you feel relaxed. In light of this, they have been shown to provide a euphoric feeling similar to opium or heroin.

Mitragynine also interacts with other receptor systems in the brain. When you consume the drug, it will release opioids, which can eliminate pain and fatigue.

Kratom effects on the stomach:

Taking Kratom with an empty stomach potentiates its effects, whereas eating before taking it can cause the effects to be less intense. When taking capsules of Kratom, it might take a little longer for the effects to kick in.

How Long Does It Take for Kratom to show Effects?

The time kratom work in the human body varies with each person and the dose. Most people have reported that its effects start to be felt about 10-15 minutes after taking it. The more intense effects are felt in 2-6 hours. This time kratom takes to show its effects may vary slightly, depending dose and quality of kratom, which is why measuring the dosage carefully is important.

At low doses, kratom acts as a stimulant which was frequently used by workers in Southeast Asia. The low doses have lighter effects for a shorter time while higher doses have stronger effects for a longer time. Generally, four to five grams of kratom (equivalent to four teaspoons) have shorter and lighter effects.

When taken in higher doses, Kratom has sedating and opioid-like effects. People might use it as a way to self-medicate pain or lessen their opiate withdrawal symptoms. Approximately 7-8 grams of kratom (approximately 7 tablespoons) have Longer and more intense effects. The peak time for the experience should be around one or two hours after ingestion.

How long kratom stays in our system?

Most people are coping with kratom addiction and want to stop its use and the other half of people are worried about their drug test. If you are concerned about how long kratom stays in your body for whatever reason, we will determine it with the dose and its half-life.

Elimination half-life “is a term used to describe the time it takes for the drug’s plasma concentration to be reduced by half”. There are not enough studies that have been conducted on the half-life of Kratom.

However, based on what academics have found so far, Mitragynine, which is the main alkaloid in kratom with a half-life of 23.24 hours. It means it will stay in your body for one day after consumption.

Based on this information, it would take around half a day for someone to eliminate 50% of the kratom in their body. It would take 5.5 days for kratom to be fully cleared from the system, based on this half-life information.

The drug is proportionally eliminated from the body as its half-life increases. For example, if a 100mg dose of an intravenous drug with a half-life of 15 minutes was given to a patient, it would take 15 minutes for 50mg of the drug to remain in their system. Consequently, 25 mg dose will take 30 minutes to remain; 12.5 mg will take 45 minutes and 120 minutes for 0.39 mg to remain in the body.

Factors that determine kratom duration in your system:

Some of the factors that can determine the elimination time and, ultimately, how long it will stay in your system include:

Age:

Age is the primary factor that determines the kratom absorption in your system. Older people tend to have a longer elimination half-life than younger people. With kratom as with other substances that are ingested orally, the older you are, the longer it takes for your body to get rid of it.

Green kratom is usually found in urine for approximately 10-12 hours in healthy people and of normal weight. In people of older age or those with chronic health conditions, it can stay in your system for up to 24 hours or more. Besides this, if you’re taking other medication, the kratom will also stay in your system longer.

Genetics:

Genetic is the foremost factor that determines kratom absorption in your body. A few genetic markers or enzymes may affect how quickly kratom is eliminated from a person’s body.

Body fat:

Another factor that can help determine the length of time it takes for kratom alkaloids to be eliminated is the person’s fat percentage. People with high body fat can keep the kratom in their system longer.

Water intake and diet:

If you take Kratom along with high-fat meals, the substance can reach its peak concentrations faster. Proper hydration can also affect how quickly the substance enters your bloodstream.

Other factors that play a role in how quickly Kratom leaves your system are your kidney function, urinary PH, and metabolic rate. Factors like these aren’t unique to kratom – many other substances have them.

Does Kratom Show up in a Drug Test?

Kratom doesn’t show up on most common drug tests such as SAMHSA-5, but some kratom alkaloids can be detected in certain urine or blood tests for up to three days of usage. It is because blood tests provide a shorter detection window for substances and are more invasive. A urine test is commonly conducted to check any drugs presence.

However, there is also the option of giving a kratom 10-panel drug test, which can detect if someone has used kratom in the past few weeks.

If you’re worried about passing a drug test, it’s important to remember that many other factors determine the duration a substance will be detectable in your system. These include: what type of substance it is, whether or not you take it regularly, your age, how much you weigh & the frequency with which you consume the substance in question.

If you want to avoid being tested positive for a drug, it is not as simple as figuring out how quickly the drug leaves your system. For this reason, the safest idea is not to take any drugs at all.
