Alabama passed a new bill in 2016 that outlawed the usage of kratom. However, it appears likely that this particular plant was not banned prior to this particular law being enacted due to the fact that Hydromitragynine and Mitragynine are both main substances used in the creation of kratom.

Kratom, a natural substance in the coffee family and has been used for centuries to relieve anxiety and depression from various causes and to address pain. But Alabama’s lawmakers had labeled Hydromitragynine and Mitragynine found in Kratom as synthetic substances. Due to which they banned it.

The consumption, sale, and possession of Kratom products are illegal in Alabama because they represent a threat to public health. The law puts everyone who sells uses or possesses Kratom at risk for serious criminal penalties, including potential jail time. All stores are pressured to not sell Kratom products within the next 48 hours otherwise face charges.

A group of kratom users based in Alabama have demanded an end to this law. They have signed a petition and gathered thousands of signatures, but they have not yet managed to change the law. The group continues its struggle with demands for repeal, but meanwhile, kratom is still banned in Alabama.
